Hello There!

Thank you for joining me in the Monday Blog. I hope you all are doing well and surviving the "stay in" quarantine. It feels like it's been a very long month. It's almost April so keep your heads up!

Starting today MONDAY BLOG's are here for you every week! So excited to be here to talk about tips, BTS (behind the scenes) and many more topics from my work to helpful tips you'll need/want to know when it comes to being in front of a camera. We all know it can feel awkward. I feel the same. Which is why I want to help you be comfortable and yourself when the camera comes out.

This Monday I will be answering

5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS!!

And please feel free to ask your own questions in the comments below. I'd be happy to answer them.

HERE WE GO!!

Question: We want to shoot outside by the flowers in our backyard! Is that doable?

Answer: In this answer I will use the flowers as an example.
The flowers can represent many things (a certain tree, the porch, a pretty door, a water feature and many more.
Anyhow this may not seem like a popular question but you'd be surprised on how many people want to stay home or use certain features or objects for their photos. For sure not a bad thing at all, but with these questions from them can bring up questions for the client as well and a few technical things flow through my head. So first things first, I'd love to shoot with a beautiful background with flowers too (I mean, who doesn’t?!?)
Here is where my mind goes as far as a few technical things – the time of day we’ll be shooting and the direction in which those "flowers" are facing. Those two factors are an important key, as far as whether the "flowers" make it in the shot or not.. I know that's not what the client wants to hear, but that's the reality. Now, personally I will try and take one picture next to the "flowers" to show you what I see and then go from there. So ultimately this decision is decided when I arrive to the photo session and over look the "flowers". If the "flowers" don't make the cut that's not to say we can't work with the rest of the surrounding, all is still good, because the world provides a bunch of natural wonders our eye can overlook easily and on a regular basis, but there most likely can be a spot that you would never guess to be a great backdrop. When I find the right angle of light or the best catchlight, your photos will be as unique as you are!

Question: What should we wear?

Answer: This is a popular question in one form or another that I receive.
With that being said it's also one of my favorites to answer! Why you ask?!? Well because these photos are supposed to capture YOU (YOUR family.) Each person and family is unique! I will however recommend taking a step back and look at your styling on a daily basis and go from there or of course a color scheme or two to help with coordination. In a few recent photo sessions I have sent a few Pinterest boards to the client to help with visuals on this topic. Also, It’s okay to mix and match prints, patterns, solids, etc, all while being aware if some obvious clashing.Haha. If still lost.. ASK your photographer! I'm sure they would love to help. At least I know I would be. I'm here for you!

Question: Our child is a little shy at first/or our child is very independent – how will you get good photos?

Answer: This is a great question!
I feel like it's easier for me to work with the kiddos since I have a background in Babysitting and being a Nanny close to 10 years under my belt. Every kiddo is unique in their behavior which is fantastic and exciting. I always learn something new working with each one.

So with all that being said I’m very quick to figure out upon first meet what I can do to help them be comfortable with a stranger and a camera.

If your child needs a little time to warm up, then we take a little time and I ease into their space with gentle engagement. Vice versa, if there’s a LOT of energy happening with your child, I’ll jump right in.
High fives and talking about animals are great ice breakers.

Question:  Should we bring props?

Answer: Bringing props is not necessary unless you have a special item you'd like to incorporate in the photos.
On our pre-session talk, I’ll ask if there’s anything you’d like to include and talk it through when to introduce it and if you're okay with any props that i'd like to bring and include if any at all.

MOST FREQUENT QUESTION FOR LAST!!

Question:   What’s the best amount of time for a photo session?

Answer: If you give me a background about you and or your family I can usually gauge which would be the best time for a photo session.
Usually I recommend nothing less than an hour (especially with kids.) Though I have to say whatever works best for you or your family of course.
Sometimes something short and sweet is the perfect amount of time, and other times more time is necessary.
If you have a larger family, Seniors/portraits or couple sessions and you’d like to include a few looks, then minimum of two hours is usually recommended.
